Farmers & Merchants Bank of Central California provides Online Banking through a third party provider who is a leader in the industry. They are constantly developing and implementing security enhancements to ensure the integrity of our Online Banking system.
All Online Banking activity uses secure connections. Utilizing Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology, all transmissions of web pages and data between F&M Bank's Online Banking and its customers are completely encrypted and are unreadable to any person or group trying to "intercept" the transmission. TLS encryption is the industry standard and is commonly used in Internet applications that require security and privacy for sensitive data.
Passwords: Before the customer accesses Online Banking, they are required to enter their Online Banking ID and Personal Identification Number (PIN). Without the proper log-in, individuals cannot see or use any web pages within the Online Banking product. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, the customer's online banking account will be locked. If the Password Reset has been established, the customer will be asked a series of questions and if answered correctly, will then be prompted to change the password. As a safety measure, customers are requested to update their password periodically.
Account Number Masking and Pseudo Account Names: For security reasons, account number(s) never appear on the computer screen. Where the account number would have displayed it appears as @##############@. Pseudo Account Names are user-defined titles for the customer's account (i.e., "My Checking") and are used when displaying account information on the screen.
Log-in session time-out: If the customer logs-in to Online Banking and then fails to keep the session active, it will time-out once the time-out limit is reached.
PIN guessing: PIN guessing is deterred and reported by our third party provider.
The evolving nature of the Internet makes it impossible to guarantee absolute confidentiality in all circumstances. However, F&M Bank continues to monitor and review the security procedures that our third party provider has in place to protect customer information. These measures are updated as practices change and new technology becomes available.
