Mobile Banking Security Tips


Protect your bank accounts and personal information from cyber criminals.

These tips will help strengthen the security of your smart phone or tablet.

Use Care When Downloading Apps. Only download Apps from official stores such as Apple® or Google™ to minimize the risk of downloading one with malware, spyware or malicious codes.

Don't "Jailbreak" or "Root." Do not remove the locked features or limitations set by the device provider's root operating system. This may open the device to security vulnerabilities and may prevent it from receiving operating system updates or security updates.

Apply Updates to Your Operating System (OS). Updating your operating system can help ensure your device has all the up-to-date features, and current security patches or enhancements.

Use a Strong Password to Lock Your Device and Apps. Don't use passwords such as your mother's maiden name, or personal details such as your home address or the date of your birthday (it is easy for a criminal to find this information about you). When creating a password, strong ones use the entire keyboard (letters, numbers and symbols), not just the most common characters. Do not make the rookie mistake of using 'qwerty' or a similar string of keys (if your password is lacking in complexity it could be easy to crack).

Lost or Stolen Devices. Mobile phones and tablets are easily lost or stolen, which can put your information at risk. Protect yourself:

Use Antivirus and Malware Software Protection. You can safeguard your device from mobile viruses, malware, spyware, phishing websites and other predatory entities by installing (and keeping up to date) the most current security protection. This may require syncing your devices to a computer.

Use a Firewall. A firewall is a software program that helps screen out hackers, viruses, and worms that try to reach your device over the Internet. Firewalls screen incoming and outgoing access requests to make sure they are legitimate and approved.
